Ingredients For: Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipes
2-cups flour
1/2-teaspoon salt
1/2-teaspoon baking powder
1/2-teaspoon baking soda
1/2-teaspoon cinnamon
1/4-teaspoon nutmeg
1/2-cup margarine, softened
1-cup sugar
2 eggs
1-teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups applesauce
6 ounces chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional
Instructions For: Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipes
In one bowl combine the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. In another bowl beat margarine and sugar until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla and mix well. Gradually beat in dry ingredients, alternating adding with the applesauce. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets, about 2 inches apart. Bake in 350-degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes until center of cookie is set. Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipes yields about 3 Dz. cookies.
The chocolate chip cookie, also known as the Toll House Cookie, was accidentally developed by Ruth Graves Wakefield, owner of the Toll House Inn near Whitman, Massachusetts, in 1930. Wakefield was making chocolate chip cookie recipes but ran out of regular baker's chocolate and substituted broken pieces of semi-sweet chocolate, assuming it would melt and mix into the batter. It did not, and the cookie with chips of chocolate was born.
