1-cup (2 sticks) margarine or butter, room temperature
2 cups packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoons vanilla extract
1-teaspoon cream of tartar
1-teaspoon baking soda
1-teaspoon salt
3 cups flour
1 cup finely chopped walnuts

In a bowl, cream together the margarine and brown sugar. Add all remaining ingredients but flour and nuts and cream together. Add the flour and mix well. Blend in finely chopped nuts.
Form a log and roll in wax paper. Chill several hours or overnight in refrigerator (or 1 to 2 hours in freezer). Quickly cut chilled dough into -inch slices. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Set dough slices on un-greased cookie sheets, at least an inch apart, and bake butterscotch icebox cookies recipes in preheated oven for 10 minutes or just until tops start to brown.
